Reading

Accelerated Reader (AR)

AR is a computer program that tests a child's comprehension.  The child reads or has a book read to him/her from the Accelerated Reader book list.  The child then takes a computerized test on the book,  answering multiple-choice questions that checks his/her recall of basic facts and events in the books.  After finishing the test, the child gets a point score based on the difficulty level of the book and the number of questions he/she answered correctly.  The computer keeps track of every student's points.

Please use AR bookfinder to look up the book level and point value of books you have at home.

Reading Log

The requirements for the home reading log will be to read 15-20 minutes per day.  Our goal is to read at least five of the seven days per week.  This will be part of your child's reading grade.  They may also use this reading time to help meet their AR goal.  I would like you to record the minutes your child reads each day and initial the box.  If they do not read that day, please leave the box empty.  Weekly reading logs are due on Friday morning. The reading log is located in the front of the planner.
